Jon and Kate Plus…?

You'd have to be living under a rock right now not to have heard about the reality show “Jon and Kate Plus 8”. Even if you've never watched it, you have certainly caught news articles or magazine covers in the supermarket check-out line touting the end of their marriage and all the wailing going on about “oh-what-will-we-do-about-the-children”? I guess there is even a special episode on tonight that is supposed to answer the burning question… will they or won't they?

I would like to say I've not stooped so low as to follow this fiasco, but I would be lying. I started watching the show a few months ago and although I don't always agree with their decisions or their parenting skills, I have always maintained that children don't come with manuals and we all do the best we can… well, most of us do. I'm not talking about the crack-moms or the ones who leave their children in the car while they go into the bar. I think for the most part, main-stream moms who love their children do the best they can and they really do try to think about what is best for their children.

Do we all get it right? Hell no. I can speak from experience. I don't think most of us get it right very much of the time. I think a lot of it is luck… and angels watching out.

We've all gone crazy about Kate's bossiness and Jon's wussiness. We've all decided she's a bitch and he's a wiener. It is rumored he's playing around with young women and she's playing around with old bodyguards. Personally? Who cares. I mean, seriously. Who. Cares.

Yes, they put their children out there for the world to see. Yes, it has brought them a lot of money and fame and follows comes photographers and sleazy news articles. Are they true? Probably. Should we care? Not unless we are prepared to have to answer to our own perfection. Remember, glass houses, rocks, etc…?

I think there is probably going to be a big change in that tv show. I think there is going to be a huge change in that family dynamic. I think it should be done in private, not out where we have to live with seeing all the dirty laundry aired. Yes, it is probably there, but do we have to look at those children ten years down the road with a knowing smile and say, “yeah… I saw your parents implode on national tv”. Me? I'm going to just turn it off now and let them live their lives… hopefully, not in the public eye.

Some Day I’d Like To…

….kick some virus-trojan-spyware-malware creator creep's ass up between his/her ears.

I've just spent days… DAYS… trying to get something called Hacktool.Rootkit off my computer at work. It was a stinker. My anti-virus would keep catching it, and saying it was deleted, but that I needed to reboot to get rid of it altogether. Then when I would reboot, it would find it and catch it again. We (the tech support people at my company and myself) tried 101 different ways to get rid of it. Finally, we were able to get an updated copy of our Norton that would kill it for good.

Oh… and after I kick the ass of the person who creates these things, I would kick the ass of the guys in my office who get on my computer when I'm not there and surf the net, picking UP this shit. Grrrrr….

Big Brother

Something happened recently to some friends of ours that got me a bit riled up. Of course, I'm going to share it… I want to see if I'm just over-reacting or if you agree with me that the people in this situation went way out of bounds in their "job".

We have some friends who had a chocolate lab dog stray show up at their door. It was in fairly tough shape, and they took it in and bathed it, fed it, and took care of it for a few days. Once they got it cleaned up they could tell she'd recently had puppies and she was really dehydrated (my friend is a nurse and recognized the signs). They took good care of her and they were getting attached – as was their small child.

Being good people, they started worrying that there may be someone missing her. They called the animal rescue league to see if anyone had reported her missing. They told then no one had, and ended the conversation.

A few hours later my friend took her child and went to the grocery store. When she returned, she found the animal rescue league people had come to their home and taken the dog! No, my friends had not given them their address – they got it off of their caller ID! No, they didn't TELL the ARL to come get the dog. As a matter of fact, they were thinking they liked her so much they'd keep her if there was no owner to claim her. Did the ARL think to ASK them? No. They just looked up their address, came to their home, and took the dog off their property!

Am I over-reacting to be totally pissed about this? What do you think?

In other happier news… it's Michael's birthday! Happy Birthday, friend!

Boooorrriiinngg

Yes, my posting as of late has been terribly boring. Ho-hum. This post isn't gonna be much better.

  • Dad. No news yet. He's still depressed as well and he and mom refuse to come for thanksgiving, even if my son brings them. Now I hear they don't even want me to send food down for them. Argh.
  • Me. Shoulders. Doc was entirely too impressed with my progress. Tells me no more physical therapy, just continue exercises at home. For the rest of my life. Yup. I'm not kidding. That's exactly what he said. I've got three strikes against me – I'm female, I'm diabetic, and I've had back surgery. That, in his words, is the trifecta of reasons why I will have to continue to fight this forever. Yay me. Supposedly the pain will go away. Some day. I'm not holding my breath.
  • Work. Well, because of all the rain we got I actually managed a weekend off. I barely knew how to contain myself. I did do a few things I should do… and I did do a few things I shouldn't. A nice balance.
  • Harvest. Is getting there. Should get done with all our grain today, then have some harvesting left to do for landlords. Hopefully will finish before Thanksgiving. Probably won't finish field work by then, but one thing at a time.
  • Turkeys. It's turkey time at work. Time to deliver to the customers who've spent the most money. It is a customer appreciation thing, but it is a pain to have to do this time of year. Oh, well…at least *I* don't have all that many to take.
  • Internet. My youngest son found out we could use wireless broadband service. Anywhere. Even at our house in the country. This has turned out to be miraculous. We have broadband speed and it is HALF the price! I'm so tickled pink I can barely stand it. I can finally play WoW without lag! Whoo hoo! I mean… I can get my work done in half the time…. um…. yeah….   The neat thing is, hubs can use it at the shop or on the road (he got a laptop finally) where he only used to have dial up! He's almost as excited as I am! Kudos to the son!
  • FNG. The new guy at work has about 27 strikes against him so far. There is an office pool going as to how long he's here. More on that later.
  • It's cold. My car said it was 17 degrees today on the way to work. Seventeen. Brrr. Thank goodness for heated seats!

Have a good week!

4:40 a.m.

My body doesn't know the clocks changed. My puppies don't know the clocks changed. The sun, obviously doesn't know the clocks changed.

Why can't they leave the fucking clocks alone.

yeah. thanks.

Tuesday…and Counting

Well, hasn't this been a boring blog of late? Sorry. Lots of work tends to do that to a person. I have a couple of quick complaints, however. Yes, I know, you don't see me for a week then I come back whining.

First. I don't like the updated WordPress. As a matter of fact, I hate to say it, but I'm getting pretty damn frustrated with it. I don't know how to do things in it "behind the scenes" and that frustrates me. I'm the kind of person who likes to tweak and fiddle and mess with things to make them just the way I want them. At the moment, I can't even figure out how to put up a freakin' picture! I had a couple of the pumpkin-carving pics I was gonna put up and I realized things had changed since the last time I posted a picture and I don't even know how. Argh.

Second. The election is a week away. Thank God. Will it ever end? The amount of mail we've been receiving is enough to kill 10 forests over. My college student daughter says she gets at least two texts on her cell phone… a DAY. If we didn't have an unlisted home phone number now, I'd hate to think how many calls we'd be getting. The television is stuffing advertisements, commentaries, debates, comic routines, and quickie blurbs on the news at us until you can't turn it on without there being something political on the screen. One of my pet peeves? The amount of money these people go through to try and get our vote. It is mind-boggling. I mean, in all sincerety? I wish they'd just put their information out on the internet where we could all look at it and compare. It would be FREE. Make them spend no money at all. None. Nada. Zilch. I mean, not even their own. With all the people needing money in this country, they should have to turn over any funds "raised" directly to a worthy charity to be distributed to the people who don't have enough money to put gas in their car to get to work or can't keep the food pantry stocked to feed their children.

Last. I'm not going to tell you who to vote for. That's your own personal business. I just encourage you to get out there and do it. You can't bitch about it if you don't.
